Most important cathedrals in the city: the cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne.

Welcome to a new interactive blog we hope you will share with us your questions or your experiences ...

There are two cathedrals in the city: the cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne, Catholic, and the cathedral of St. Finbar, belonging to the Church of Ireland.

The Church of St Anne, in the Shandon district, is the most famous building in Cork. The north and east faces of its tower are covered with red sandstone, the east and south, with the white limestone that predominates in the region. The tower clock is known as "the Four-faced Liar" because from the base of the building each clock appears to show a different time. Shandon is open to the public, who can ring the bells.

The Town Hall, another limestone building, replaces the old one, which was destroyed by the Black and Tans on December 11, 1920 during the War of Independence in the so-called "Burning of Cork". As a gesture of reconcilia.
